Privacy policy

Applies to cloudmash.blog and cloudmash.dev. You are reading it on cloudmash.blog. Last updated October 3, 2026.

The short version

If you sign up for the newsletter, we store your email address so we can send you new posts. That is all we use it for. We do not sell it, share it for advertising, or add it to any other list. You can unsubscribe at any time.

What we collect when you sign up

  • Your email address, trimmed and stored in lowercase.
  • Where you signed up: which of the two sites, and the page you were on.
  • When you signed up: a timestamp.
  • An unsubscribe code: a random value used to build your personal unsubscribe link. It contains no information about you.
  • Your subscription status: active or unsubscribed.

We do not store your name, your IP address or a browser fingerprint with your subscription.

Why

To email you when something new is published, and to honor unsubscribe requests. The legal basis is your consent, which you give by submitting the form and can withdraw at any time.

Spam protection

The signup form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from bots. Turnstile runs a short check in your browser and processes technical signals such as your IP address to do that; it does not use cookies for advertising. Requests to the signup endpoint are also rate limited per IP address. These signals are used only for the check and are not stored with your subscription. See the Turnstile privacy addendum.

Where it is stored

Subscriptions are stored in a Cloudflare D1 database. Both sites are hosted on Cloudflare. Only the site operator can export the list, using a private access key.

How to unsubscribe

Every email includes an unsubscribe link. One click marks your address as unsubscribed and no further emails are sent. If you sign up again later, the same entry is simply reactivated.

Analytics

Both sites use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless and does not track you across sites. It counts page views and basic, aggregated technical information such as browser type and country, and does not identify you.

Data stored in your browser

The interactive lessons on cloudmash.dev remember which lessons you have completed and your light or dark theme choice. This is kept in your browser's local storage, never sent to us, and you can clear it at any time by clearing site data in your browser. The sites set no cookies of their own.

Embedded videos

Some pages embed videos from YouTube. They use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com) and load only after you click play. Once a video is playing, YouTube's own privacy policy applies.

Advertising

The sites may display advertising provided by Google AdSense to support free content. When ads are shown:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info.
  • Learn more in how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.

Where the law requires it, for example for visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, you will be asked for consent before personalized ads or advertising cookies are used, and you can change your choice at any time.

Children

The sites are written for a general audience and are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your rights

You can ask what information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or withdraw your consent, by emailing hello@cloudmash.dev. For the newsletter, the unsubscribe link in any email does this immediately.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. Questions about privacy: hello@cloudmash.dev.
